my ipod classic(80gb) sometimes has trouble detecting the cable but if i just disconnect it and plug it back in it works fine, the picture audio is pretty good, so i would recomend this cable if you don't want to spend $50 on the apple av cable.

G. MartinezI HAVE AN IPOD TOUCH 1ST GENERATION WITH SOFTWARE (SOME CALL IT FIRMWARE) V2.0 (NOT V2.0.1 OR ANYTHING HIGHER), AND THE VIDEO AND AUDIO ONLY RUNS FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS IN MY TV, THEN IT JUST SHUTS DOWN, AND KEEPS RUNNING IN THE DEVICE. DO NOT BUY!
"Does not work with iPod Touch" 2008-12-15By

ivan offelitch's review is dead on, please read it for details.
I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch with software version 2.2 and this cable does not work. It will play back 15-20 seconds of video, after which it will drop out. Ivan has found the issue and I have verified it, he is completely right. I wish I had read his review prior to purchasing the cable.

Well kids, I did some checking around, and this cable will work on the iPod Touch (1st gen) 2.0 upgrade and earlier, but NOT 2.1. Apparently there is a chip in Apple's own manufactured cable (which only Apple has the chip, beware of makers that SAY they have the chip) that keeps the video running on your TV. If you have 2.0 or earlier, the video plays fine in almost all cases (based on the blogs I read), but with the 2.1 upgrade you HAVE to have an Apple AV cable WITH THAT CHIP or else the video only plays for about 10-15 seconds, then blanks out. (The audio still plays.) Happened with me, and happened with every one of the 2.1 upgraded iPods. Classic scrambling/compatibility technique, but that's what happens in a free market. Apple's got every right to do so.
On the many blogs I read, (YES, I have no life, okay?) people tried them on different TV sets, people reset their iPods, etc, and the only ones that worked were with the 2.0 firmware and earlier. Is that through your head, now? Good.
So if you don't ever plan on upgrading your iPod, this should work fine for you. If you have a newer iPod, or a 1st gen iPod Touch or iPhone with the 2.1 upgrade, you'll waste your money just like I did. If it had cost more, I'd be giving this only one star out of spite, but when it worked for that 10-15 seconds, it actually worked remarkably well. Roughly the same quality as a VHS tape. So if it's what you want and you know it will work on your iPod's firmware, it should work just great. If you have a newer iPod or iPhone with the newest firmware, based on that, you can afford to go to Apple's site or the Apple Store and get their manufactured brand.
Hope this helps clear up any confusion on why there are so many conflicting reviews...
